Rain と言う言葉を見ると，つい in the rainとしてしまいますが，storm は "on"なんですねぇ。

X-on the way home in a heavy rain storm
これによく似ていて，間違えやすいのが，
O- Get on the bus.
X- Get in the bus.
昔，なんで ”in the bus” じゃなんだって，アメリカ人の友人と言い合いになったのですが，その時に彼は，「そう言われれば，in the bus だよなぁ」 と言われました。 でも on the bus が正解です。
O- Get in the car.
X- Get on the car.
どういうわけか，車は in なんですねぇ。 ルールは無いです。 記憶するだけです。
